12 | Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue (1990)

i can't believe i haven't seen this movie yet in all of my life. i can imagine how effective this movie must be to help keep kids off drugs, because wholly.ca it even scared me!

this movie also gave me a good idea. it was nice seeing all my favorite cartoon characters again! i think the quality of cartoons in the 80's and 90's was far better than what there is now-a-days... so, when i have kids, i'm going to trick them into thinking these old cartoons are actually current ones, and they'll get to grow up watching the same cartoons i did.

i don't even know how to rate this movie... so i am going to rate it based on how i felt the entire time i watched it, and give it a 2/5 for scaring me so much, and also making me miss old cartoons.

11 | Zoolander (2001)

i just can't stop laughing! if you don't laugh continuously throughout this entire movie, then you probably have no soul. ben stiller is fkn hilarious; in fact, every single person in this movie is fkn hilarious.

favorite quote: "how can we be expected to teach children to learn how to read... if they can't even fit inside the building?"

10 | The Boondock Saints (1999)

i love how this movie "kind of makes me feel like river dancing". and i also love how it contains a ton of "stuff you normally see in bad television". this is just an awesome movie, and i especially love willem dufoe. this is one of those movies i could watch a hundred times and never get sick of.

4/5

9 | The Karate Kid (2010)

normally when i watch a movie with jackie chan in it, he is either fighting a large group of henchman, or he's spending the whole movie trying to explain something to chris tucker. this movie was not at all what i expected. jackie chan did a pretty awesome job playing a serious role and it's one of my favorite performances by him to date. jaden has the potential to be a great actor one day... and for his first lead role i think he did ok. the movie itself wasn't all that great though. it was almost like they decided to spend most of their time developing the characters instead of the actual story line. idunno. maybe i'm just crazy. i just wasn't really feeling it.

8 | Tommy Boy (1995)

whooley schnike! not a laugh out loud kind of comedy, but definitely made me laugh on the inside a few times. you are greatly missed captain farley.

nb.

2.5/5

7 | Sleeper (1973)

good old fashioned slapstick-ish out of this world comedy. good job woody allen. good job. if you don't mind the shitty sets, and the cheap props, then this movie is actually pretty awesome; especially because it's about the future (as imagined in 1973, so you can imagine the inaccuracies... which make the movie even better).

6 | Once (2006)

i've seen this movie about 10 times now... and it makes me smile the entire time i'm watching it, every time. it's so well written, and the music is simply outstanding. if you haven't seen this movie yet, make yourself a pot of tea, cuddle up next to someone, and watch it. do it now.

5 | The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004)

this is for sure my favourite wes anderson movie. i just can't stop laughing when i watch it. there are so many good one-liners, and random events.

i dont have a single bad thing to say about this movie.

5/5.

4 | After.Life (2009)

from the very beginning of this movie, you find yourself wondering if you have it figured out or not... and just when you think you do, something comes along that makes you second guess yourself. i am fairly certain i know now what the reality was, but can understand completely just how pointless it would be to argue it heh.

i think the movie itself was well done, but can see how it might not be for everyone. in terms of the acting, directing, and casting; i thought ricci, long, and neeson did a supurb job and agnieszka did not disappoint.

i'd give it a 4/5 for those who tend to have more analytical minds... and a 2/5 for those who just like being entertained =)

3 | The Taking of Pelham 123 (2009)

watched this with my cousins after we got up because it happened to be on tv. this is what i was talking about when i said i'd add movies when it made sense to do so.

the movie was alright i guess. nothing special really. storyline was mediocre, and the acting was a bit stale imho. there wasn't much going on, and i really wasn't on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. predictable, and did not live up to the potential of the cast; but then again, what has either denzel or john done recently that has?

not good enough. 2/5.

2 | Punch Drunk Love (2002)

there are so many things i love about this movie... first of all, when philip seymore hoffman is on the phone and just says "shut up, shut up, shut, shut, shut, shut, shut, just shut up" it kills me every time. same goes for when he's getting a haircut. i mean, why is he getting a haircut in his mattress store? i love it. secondly, and most importantly, i always enjoy a movie that makes me feel exactly the same way as the main character, in that half way through the movie, i started to realize just anxious i was beginning to get. adam sandler does an excellent job at making me believe he is slowly starting to lose it, and everything and everyone around him is like a steady drop of water falling on his forehead... which is just making things more and more intense as the movie goes on. 4.5/5

1 | (500) Days of Summer (2009)

not only did i instantly love the soundtrack, but the entire feel of this movie was amazing. i think the absolute best way to describe this movie is exactly this: "this is not a love story. it is a story about love" i really really liked this movie a lot because it wasn't trying to make ME fall in love with the characters; but instead, was trying to show me how much one person could love another. simply amazing movie. 5/5

and it begins...

out of my mind came an idea. that is, the idea to watch 50 movies before the beginning of september. the list of movies i have chosen to watch came from the suggestions of friends and family. i decided not to tell anyone, but whichever movies were suggested to me were added to my list, no matter what they were. the ones i couldn't find online to download simply got cut from the list. i've also decided to add the occasional random movie to the list as i see fit, which may require me to remove others. these additions will be added on a whim, and most of them based on whatever movie happens to be on/playing in the vicinity.

so without further a due, it begins.

update: i guess i should post my list as well...
