Paper Heart (2009) - 3/5... or maybe 3.5/5... can't decide. not really important either way i guess.

at first, i wasn't entirely sure if this was a real documentary or not, but i had a sneaking suspicion that it wasn't... since imdb was telling me that charlyne and michael cera broke up in July, 2009 after 3 years of dating... and this movie was made in 2009... it's science.

lots of funny people in the movie, even though they're all just playing themselves at a party mostly, and not doing anything funny at all.

oh, also, i don't like charlyne yi very much. she seems like she tries too hard or something. idunno. and she looks like E.T. michael cera was the funniest part of the whole movie. almost everything he says is funny. in fact, he kind of makes her seem desperate or something throughout the entire movie too... i can't quite put my finger on it... but the picture to the right pretty much sums it up.

point is, the movie was actually pretty good... depending on your definition of good i guess... but i liked it. so that's good enough for me. lot's of different perspectives on love, and it makes you think a lot i guess. which i like to do... so there's that.

my favourite part from the movie is when someone is giving their opinion on love, and they say "it's actually about the 'like'. people love each other, but can't stand each other. it's all about loving being around them, and just being happy whenever you are." .... concurred.

Just Like the Son (2006) - 4/5

i liked how the guy was just trying to do the right thing, and the whole time knew what the outcome was going to be, but continued anyway because he knew he had to keep his promise and couldn't let the kid down, while at the same time just trying to give him a bit of hope and happiness.

this movie makes you think about what you would do in the same situation. i think most people (including myself) would have let things be, but i also think that if most people had nothing to lose like he did, we all would have done the same thing... and to be honest, i'm sure we all would have learned a lot.

great story with an ability to really make you think about what's really important in life, and also what's worth doing, in spite of the consequences.

The Switch (2010) - 3.5/5

cute kid, familiar scenarios that i think a lot of people can relate to, and overall a pretty nb movie.

c'est tous.

Peacock (2010) - 4.5/5

i'm not sure where to begin... so i'll start by saying that despite my rating of 4.5/5, this movie is definitely not for everyone.

i decided to watch this movie without seeing a trailer or knowing anything about the movie whatsoever, but purely based on who was in the movie. in fact, i only heard about this movie by browsing ellen page's profile on imdb. who, by the way, was perfectly cast for her role.

...and speaking of perfectly cast... cillian murphy was absolutely incredible, and i honestly couldn't picture anyone else playing this part.

i love psychological thrillers, and was pleasantly surprised when i realized that this movie was one. absolutely brilliant. if you love psychology, or love seeing the potential of the human mind, than this movie is for you.

4.5/5

no moar marathon

even though the marathon is over, i've decided to continue to use this blog as a medium for some more of my half-assed movie reviews. i won't post reviews for all the movies i watch, but when i feel the urge, i'll put something up in case someone feels like knowing what i think about it.

53 | The Other Guys (2010)

some pretty funny parts, but overall this wasn't a very good movie. it was your typical "good guys want to solve a case, but nobody believes them, so they have to prove to everybody that they aren't idiots, etc..." type movie.

2.5/5

52 | The Expendables (2010)

i enjoy a good action movie every once in a while, and this one was the beeze neeze (ya, that's how i spell that). the cast was phenomenal, and the gore was stupendous! well done boys.... well done...

51 | Twilight - Eclipse (2010)

hey werewolf, put a fkn shirt on. there is no reason for you to be topless at all. not one. and don't try to tell me it's so that your shirt doesn't rip when you turn into a wolf... because that's just stupid... you can wear pants, but not a shirt? what about the girl wolves? why do they wear shirts and you don't? i don't get it. you're dumb.

aside from that stupidity, the acting in this movie is absolutely ridiculous. horrible acting. horrible writing. this movie was obviously made to make little girls go nuts and buy twilight packsacks and pencil cases. there is no other logical reason why a movie as shitty as this would be made.

50 | The Hangover (2009)

i think i've seen this before... because a lot of part looked familiar... but at the same time, i never had any idea what was going to happen next... either way, this viewing was pretty nb. i laughed a lot because every scene contains someone confused out of their mind! confusion is the funniest thing on this planet imo...

4/5

49 | A Serious Man (2009)

another awesome film from the cohen brothers... i laughed a lot, and despite the dull story line, i found the movie kept me entertained the entire time. i didn't get bored once.

48 | The Visitor (2007)

the visitor is about a university professor/writer who moves back to his new york apartment to find a couple living there... but not only does he find the couple, he finds himself.

an unfortunate set of circumstances quickly change the direction of the story, and gives a realistic view of how the world actually works. it's hard to explain a movie like this, so i highly recommend you watch it and see for yourself.

4/5

47 | An Education (2009)

an education was a movie about a girl who finds love with an older man who her family adores... and is then is faced with a choice that could change her life.

i liked the movie... and the message it sends... i just wish it didn't seem so familiar, and didn't require people to experience what she experienced to realize it.

4/5

46 | Synecdoche, New York (2008)

charlie kaufman, you've done it again. synecdoche, new york is a movie about a man who experiences all the things in life people commonly go through, portrayed via the medium of a metaphorical play.

every movie charlie kaufman writes is done in such a way that the story he's trying to tell can be appreciated by comparing it to something completely different. his movies may confused some people, especially this one... which is why i recommend multiple viewings. i've seen this one once before, and i must say it was far better this time around, once you can appreciate what is going on throughout the whole thing. this really is a movie you need to see. i already want to watch it again.

5/5.

45 | The Green Mile (1999)

another movie i've never seen somehow. i laughed, i cried, etc... really really good movie.

4.5/5

44 | Taxi Driver (1976)

this was my first time watching this movie. i never really knew what it was about, but i always knew it was supposed to be good... and i was not disappointed. robert di nero was amazing, and martin scorsese did a supurb job with this film.

great job!

4.5/5

43 | Pi (1998)

i absolutely love this movie. it's about a mathematician who specializes in number theory, and tries to make sense of the stock market and torah using a 216 digit number he derived by trying to figuring out a pattern involving pi.

darren aronofsky is such a good writer and director... i love every one of his movies. watch this one, then requiem for a dream, and finally the wrestler. so good.

4/5

42 | The Experiment (2010)

i'm a huge fan of adrien brody, and was excited to see that he stars in this remake of the original german version "das experiment (2001)", which was based off a book, that was based off the real-life experiment done at stanford university in 1971 (http://www.prisonexp.org/). the storyline follows the original pretty accurately, with minor changes here and there to appeal to a more modern, americanized audience. i think the original version was much better, and much darker and intense... but this one does deserve a few kudos. forest whitaker did a great job, as did the other key characters in the film. i think the casting director hit the nail on head with this one! ...but i can't say the same for the writers. just wasn't up to par compared to the original.

3/5 (for reference, i'd give the original a 4/5)

41 | Green Zone (2010)

green zone was a half decent movie that carried a far from half decent message. there was a lot of action, and a lot of political gibberish, but overall it worked well and got the point across.

i'm not much for politics, but when a country leads thousands and thousands of friends, families, and innocent people to death, and spends $750,000,000,000 on a pointless war fueled by fear and revenge instead of spending that money to help the people who need it most, i tend to lose faith in humanity a little bit... that is until i'm reminded that there are still some good people in this world. this movie had a bit of both.

3/5

40 | 9 (2009)

i liked this movie a lot. it has a creepy apocalyptical dark feel to it, seen from the eyes of emotionally messed up robot puppets. i'd say more, but i'm tired.

4/5

39 | I Sell the Dead (2008)

i got this movie a year or so ago, and never knew what it was until tonight. it was actually a kind of funny horror movie... sorta... it's about some grave robbers who rob some pretty interesting graves.

low budget, but i think that actually benefited the feel of the movie.
